The Department of Social Work releases the first part of research summaries of the student theses of the Social Work Master's program of the 2012-2014 batch. Empirical research projects are an important part of the curriculum of the second-year MSW program. Tools such as Allen and Meyer's (1990) Organizational Commitment Questionnaire (OCQ) to measure employee commitment and the Barnwell Country Performance Evaluation form (Government of South Carolina) were used to measure employee job performance.
The results show that employee engagement has a strong impact on employee performance - a moderate level of employee engagement (affective, permanent and normative), a higher level of employee engagement, a higher level of employee performance. Effective company policies and benefits, along with good employee relations, help a company retain employees and increase employee engagement levels, which is reflected in employee performance. In today's scenario, MNCs rarely focus on employee skill development based on previous appraisal feedback in their performance appraisal.
The objectives of the study are to know the effectiveness of the existing appraisal system and their level of satisfaction, also to know employees' awareness of 720 degree appraisal systems and their propensity to adapt 720 degree appraisal systems to their organization. Research design chosen for this study was descriptive design as it helps to properly understand the importance and desire for 720 degree evaluation system.

India has a large population of urban poor that contributes to the existence of informal jobs in the sector, of which waste picking is considered to be the most neglected sector. With the growing population and increased waste production, there is also an increase in the number of waste pickers. Being in the informal sector, these waste pickers are denied various welfare schemes or services provided by the government.
The current study looks at the extent to which this waste picking can be made more organized and brought out as a formal sector. It highlights the nature of the work, problems faced by waste pickers and their expectations of an organized sector. The study includes 50 participants living in the slums of Hyderabad who were selected using a two-stage random sampling method.
82% of them often suffer from health problems and none of them have an identity card nor are they registered in any social security scheme. The study also evaluated the factors that can contribute to making an organized sector of waste collection and they show that there is a need to organize this group of individuals for a better environment of their work.

Life constantly presents us with circumstances that can affect our physical/psychosocial well-being. The central role of coping in adapting to disability is widely recognized, but coping research is far from describing a “Magic Bullet” coping strategy that can immediately solve all problems and restore emotional balance. The study was therefore conducted among 50 participants, 25 men and 25 women with disabilities currently living and studying in various colleges in Bangalore.
The aim of the study is to assess the coping mechanisms of students with disabilities and also to see if gender has a significant relationship with the coping style adopted. The Rao's coping checklist was used to assess the coping style of the students with disabilities. Results indicate that there is no significant difference in the coping strategies adopted by male and female students with disabilities.
