4.7 Sarojini Naidu School of Arts and Communication
The School offers post-graduate and Research Programmes in Fine Arts, Dance, Theatre Arts and Communication.
The emphasis is on both theory and practice. All the Disciplines have facilities for providing practical training such as studios.

• Sree Katyayani Thota performed in a Darpana Festival, Ahmedabad.
• Lalitha Sindhuri, cleared NET and was awarded JRF.
• One of our student, Aditi Nigam papers were accepted for presentation in the National Seminar on Indian Heritage Perspectives and Prospects on 10th to 11th January, 2014, organized by M S University, Baroda and Government of Gujarat.
• Students participated in “AAPAS-An Ode to Water” the production of Tourism Department, Government of A.P.
and Choreographed by Prof Anuradha J.
• T. Himabindu, Reg. No. 04SNPD01 who has re-registered and working with Prof. Anuradha J on “A Study of Dance during the Vijayanagara Period”.

Departmental activities:
1. Fourth semester students of MPA Theatre Arts (2010 batch) performed the play “Ratnaakar” at the department directed by Mr. Gunakar Dev Goswami on April 5th to April 7th 2013.
2. Second semester students of MPA Theatre Arts performed the play “The famous last words” in the G.B.Hall directed by Ms. Mallika Prasad on April 27th and April 28th, 2013.
3. Department of Theatre Arts conducted the summer camp for children with collaboration with the UHTEA from May 6th, to June 7th, 2013.
4. A workshop on Voice culture and Musical rendering for all the students by Prof. Ratna Panikkar from July, 25th to July, 31st, 2013 is conducted.
5. Prof. Nilu Kamaluddin has joined as a Chair Professor in our department for a period of one year i.e. from July, 2013 to July 2014.
6. Deepak Kurkisivaswami, Contemporary Dancer & Choreographer, Bangalore, delivered special lectures on 7th and 8th September, 2013, for the MPA Theatre students.
7. The department conducted a two week intensive workshop by Prof. M.V.Narayanan, Visiting Professor, on Research Methodology for the Ph.D students from September, 23rd to 5th October, 2013.
8. The department brought out a play with fifth semester students and presented a site specific performance of the play “Titles of letters, content partially obscured” at different places in the campus directed by our Visiting Fellow, Mrs. Zulieka Choudhary on October 4 and October 5 2013 as part of their curriculum.
10. The department brought out another play production titled “Said-e-Havas” with the first semester students which was staged at G.B.Hall directed by our Guest Faculty, Mrs. Nasreen Ishaque on November 5th and November 6th, 2013 as part of the core course.
11. The department brought out another play production titled “Wo-men” with the third semester students at G.B.Hall directed by our faculty, Mr. Rajiv Velicheti on November 10th and November 11th, 2013 as part of the course.
12. The department conducted a one month workshop on “Martial Arts” to the MPA Theatre students by Mr.
Bhagwandas Raikwar, Visiting fellow, from 1st February to 2nd March, 2014.
13. The department conducted 15 days workshop on “Video production” to the final MPA students by Mr.
Priyadarshi.P, Visiting fellow, from 11th February to 25th February, 2014.
14. The department conducted 15 days workshop on “Voice and Movement” to the MPA students by Mr. Gary Widland, Visiting fellow, from 21st February to March 7th, 2014.
15. The department conducted 15 days workshop on “Digital Medium Theatre” to the final MPA students by Ms.
Malavika Priyadarshini Rao, Visiting Fellow from 25th February to March 11th, 2014.
16. The department conducted 15 days workshop on “Indian Theatre” to the MPA students by Prof. Kirti Jain, Visiting Professor, from March 3rd to 17th March, 2014.
17. The department conducted 11 days workshop on “Lighting” to the final year students from March 11th to March 21st, 2014 by Mr. Souti Chakraborty, Visiting faculty.
18. The department conducted 8 days workshop on “Acting and Direction” to the MPA students from March 12th to March 19th, 2014 by Prof. Anuradha Kapur, Visiting Professor.
19. The department brought out a play “A Tempest” in a new space Shakespeare Arena, near south campus performed by the fourth and second semester students directed by our Chair Professor, Prof. Kamaluddin Nilu from March 13th to March 15th, 2014.

Departmental Activities:
• An eminenet Artist, Historian Mr. Suresh Jayaram from Bangalore conducted a work shop with all the students, 19-24 August, 2013.
• An eminenet Artsit, Prof V. Ramesh from Andhra University was in vited to conduct a work shop with all the students from 16thSept to 20thSept 2013.
• Prof. K.G.Subramanyam came as visititing chair professor and artist in residence from 2-7October, 2013.
• N. Pushpamala conducted a weeklong workshop and seminar on “Performance and Public Art” with the students. Students were divided into groups and made to conceptualize, perform and document site-specific works in the city,20-24 January, 2014.
• Dr. Annapurna Garimella, eminent Art Historian was invited to deliver a series of talks on “The Vernacular in the Contemporary”, February 25, 2014 - March 1, 2014.
• The Visual Arts workshop and Display during the workshop on “The Means of Performance in a Digital Age”, the workshop was sponsored by UKERI (United Kingdom Educational Research Initiative), and was a collaboration between the Department of Theatre and the Department of Fine Arts. Professor Simon Betts and Jennifer Wright from the Wimbledon College of the Arts were the visiting faculty, March 10-17, 2014.

• Participated in a Sculpture Camp on scrap material conducted by Department of Tourism, Government of Andhra Pradesh, held in November 2013.

• January 23-24: Prof Ananda Mitra of Wake Forest University conducted a two-day workshop for the MA students on “Analyzing Big Data from Social Media”.
• January 24: Screening of La Source (71 min), directed by Patrick Shen on 24-01-2014 in association with Consul General of United States, Hyderabad.
• January 24 – 26: The Department participated in the Hyderabad Literary Festival by collaborating on a panel discussion titled “Pens and Scalpels: Doctors who write”.
January 25: The Department hosted an Interaction with Dr Vijay Nagaswami, psychiatrist, author and columnist
• January 27: Dr Kaveri Nambisan visited the department and interacted with students
• March 18 – 21: A research methods workshop was organized for the students of the PG Diploma in Health Communication
