Work life balance is important for an individual’s psychological well-being, that high self-esteem, satisfaction, and overall sense of harmony in life. It is important for an individual to balance between their work life and personal life. An individual working in an IT industry, it would be difficult for him/her to balance between the work life and personal life where he/she is having a family. When both the spouse is working, it would be difficult to manage work load and division of household work and responsibilities. The work pressure may affect the personal life and vice versa and also it affects children. In this context, this study is concentrating on work-life balance of employed parents of IT industry in Bangalore. The study was conducted on 50 employed parents – 25 male and 25 female, who belongs to age group of 30 – 45 years. The researcher used self-made questionnaire to collect data with simple random sampling method. The results show that there is an imbalance between work life and personal life among employed parents. 58% of participants are never able to balance work and family life. Gender differences, work experiences and number of children had also made a significant difference in work-life balance.

31. Impact of Bullying on the Self Esteem of High School Students

In this research,Bullying is constant verbal, physical, social or psychological behaviour that is degrading and involves the misuse of power or force by an individual or group towards one or more persons (Bullying Statistics, 2010).

Self esteemrefers to the belief of an individual as a person of worth which is balanced and permanent and that allows a person to remain positive in the light of the situation they are exposed to and take charge of their lives.

Therefore the need to study the self esteem of the victims of bullying was felt by the researcher. The objectives of the study were to find out the victims of bullying and then to study their self esteem level. The study was conducted in Kerala Public School, in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. The research design used was descriptive study .The sample consists of 200 children between the age group of 12-16 belonging to grade 7-10.Results of the study showed that bullying does have an impact on the self esteem of high school students as the victims’ level of self esteem was found to be low.

32. Quality of Life of Women in Slums of Bangalore

This research assesses the Quality of Life of Women aged between 18-60 yrs old living in Ambedkarnagar slum and Ragigudda slum in Bangalore. The sample size of the study is 50 and the sampling technique used was Cluster Sampling The tool used for data collection was WHO’s QOL scale and descriptive research design was used. Descriptive statistics was used to calculate the correlation between the domains, mean and standard deviation was used to calculate the average of each domain. The result indicates that many of the women came i.e. 46% of the respondents came in-between the age group of 29-38 yrs where 72% of them were Hindu. Their monthly income was 0-5000rs. Also, a significant relation was seen between Physical health and Psychological health, Physical health and Environment, Psychological health and Environment and Physical health and Social relationship. Furthermore, the results show that Physical health domain, Psychological health domain and the Social relationship domain indicated that quality of life of women in each of the domain is medium whereas in Environment domain the quality of life is low.

33. Spiritual and Religious Practices among Transgenders

A misconception prevails that Transgenders could not be Spiritual or religious, that they rarely practice Spiritual and Religious ways to attain salvation. In the context of societal misunderstandings, lack of acceptance and intolerance expressed towards the transgenders, they develop apathy towards the society as well as life itself. Spirituality and Religion serve as a drive for meaning, a desire to connect with others and a source of hope which helps them to grow beyond the ‘label’ attached to them and to evolve as strengthened individuals who are capable to shine in darkness. This study aims at exploring that strengthening factor, that bead of faith that lies underneath their stigmatized exterior, the relationship they have with God and self and how they stick on to their faith and practice it. The objective of this study was to study about the spiritual and religious practices of transgender.

The study was conducted among transgenders associated with an institution for sexual minorities in Bangalore. Probability sampling was used for the selection of 40 transgender individuals. The samples were selected on the basis of inclusion and exclusion criteria. A self made questionnaire was applied in the study. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS 17.0 version.

The study shows that a significant number of transgender individuals are religious and spiritual. Also the study has been able to learn the ways through which they practice their faith.
