(i) It will help you to complete the assignments in time if you start working on them as

soon as possible. You should pace out your work in such a way so that all the assignments are submitted latest by 31st Marchl 2014.

(ii) All the three assignments for each course offered by you are compulsory.

(iii) The Assignment Responses (AR’s), may be submitted by hand at your Programme Centre or sent by post to the Coordinator of your Programme Centre.

ES – 334: Education and Society

Max. Marks : (3x10=30) Assignment 01

Answer the following in about 800 words.

1. Prepare a socio-cultural profile of students in a secondary school classroom. The profile should cover at least the following aspects (i) Cast (ii) class (iii) linguistic background (mother tongue) (iv) regional affiliation and (v) religion. Can these information be helpful for a teacher to perform his/her role as a caring and committed teacher? If yes how?

Assignment 02 Answer the following in about 400 words each.

1. Democracy is not just a form of governance but more of a thought and action. Keeping in view the basic ingredients of democracy comment on this statement. Also mention the role of a teacher to develop democratic values among students.

2. What do you mean by national system of education? Critically analyze the

recommendations of Kothari Commission and policy directive of NPE 1986 regarding development of a national system of education.

Assignment 03 Answer the following in about 200 words each.

1. Traditional role of family is shifted to other agencies of education even then it is one of the most important agencies of education. How far do you agree with this statement? Justify your stand.

2. Out of idealism, naturalism and pragmatism, which school does perceive the role of a teacher as most challenging one? Do you perceive such role of a teacher is required for effective delivery of the existing curriculum of Indian secondary schools. Justify your stand in brief.

3. What do you mean by Vocationalization of Education? Briefly mention the efforts carried out for Vocationalization of Education at +2 level since 1966.

4. What do you mean by Universalizaiton of Elementary Education (UEE)?Mention five most important obstacles in the way of achieving the goal of UEE.
