INTRODUCTION

The history of Indian System of Medicine has its roots and origin from the primitive ages and since then it is being practiced and encouraged by every walks of life.

Unani System was found and corroborated in Greece but as of now it is considered well practiced only in India.

Looking at this institution the Govt. Indian Medicine Pharmacy (Unani) working under Department of AYUSH., Telangana State is a Non-Profitable Organisation working in Public Interest providing medicines free of cost.

ORIGIN OF THE DEPARTMENT & INSTITUTION

In the erstwhile state of Hyderabad only Unani system was patronised by this State Government till 1941.

The Govt. Indian Medicine Pharmacy (Unani) was established in the premises of Nizamia General Hospital, Charminar, Hyderabad since the very inception of the Indian Medicines & Homeopathy Department by the state.

In the year 1979 both the pharmacies i.e the Govt. Indian Medicine Pharmacy (Ayurveda) & (Unani) were shifted to their own buildings in Kattedan Industrial Area, Hyderabad.

Subsequently a separate building with its own infrastructure was Provided to Govt. Indian Medicine Pharmacy (Unani) in G.9 & G.10 sheds acquired by the Department and is functioning since 1992.

OBJECTIVES OF THE INSTITUTION

1. To serve the people in this State of Telangana by providing Medical Relief through Unani System of Medicines.

2. To ensure proper development of Ancient Systems of Medical Treatment using Raw Drugs & Green Herbs, which is hygienic, uncontaminated & has no side effects.

3. To Produce & Supply necessary medicines in time to the demand, reduce the burden of expenditure on the Department for purchasing the same from the market.

4. To provide infrastructure and information to all the Govt. Colleges & Research Institutions during their course of study on Unani System of Medical Treatment working under this Department of AYUSH., Telangana State.

ASSIGNED WORK

Action plan is prepared every year at the beginning of the Financial Year and targets are fixed well in advance through review meetings at various levels to Supply Medicines to all (122) Govt. Unani Dispensaries & (3) Hospitals.

The mode of supply to Govt. Unani Dispensaries - (122) is as following:

Apart from this as per the indent submitted by the Medical Officer, GIMP (U)) is supplying Compound Medicines time to time.

Apart from this regular supply medicines will also be supplied on supplementary indent and for conducting of free Unani Medical camps by the institutions working under this Govt. Department.

Certain Free Medical Camps are conducted regularly on monthly basis by this Department for which medicines are supplied on monthly basis.

To ensure the quality of Raw Drugs/Compound Unani medicines prepared by this Pharmacy is sent to the DTL for its analysis along with Batch No. &

Formula No. of each product. After receiving the DTL report from the Scientific Officer the same medicines will be dispatched to the concerned Dispensaries/ Hospitals of Telangana State.
