Dr Hemayun Akhtar Nazmi working as Professor at the Centre for West Asian Studies since December 1, 2020. Prior to that, he was Associate Professor and Assistant Professor at the same centre from December 1, 2005. Before joining JMI, he worked as a Documentation Officer at the Gulf Studies Programme, Centre for West Asian and African Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi-110057.
Prof. H A Nazmi is a noted scholar of Arab and Islamic Studies. He has PhD from the Department of Islamic Studies and a double M.A. both in Arabic & Islamic Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University and Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. His M.Phil. from Centre for West Asian Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University. He was a Visiting Fellow at the MSH (June 2006) under the Indo-French Cultural Exchange Programme.
His expertise includes the history and Culture of the Arab World, Indo- Arab relations especially with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Global Perspective of Islam, Various dimensions of Islamism in the West Asian region, Islamic Movements in West Asia, Historical materials in Indian Archives and Libraries on West Asia.
He is teaching various courses like ‘Religion, Culture and Society in
West Asia’, ‘History and Culture of Saudi Arabia and Introduction to
West Asia to M. Phil and Ph. D Students. He is also teaching the courses
to the M.A students in M.A International Relations - West Asian
Studies, 1. Society and Culture in West Asia, 2. Islam and Islamism in West Asia, 3. History and Foreign Policy of Saudi Arabia, 4. Leaders in West Asia, 5. Intellectual Development in the Arab world. A course named ‘Global Perspective of Islam, teaching to the MA students of CBCS.
Prof. H A Nazmi has organized a number of Seminars/ Conferences on various topics and the most important one is 1. Indian Archives and Libraries as a Source for the Arab Gulf History in 2009, 2. ‘The Role of Higher Education in Inter Cultural Dialogue and Strengthen the World Peace in 2015.
Prof. Nazmi has several research papers and books to his credit. He has authored/edited five books on various aspects of Arab society and culture like ‘India and Saudi Arabia: The Emerging Socio-Cultural and Economic Dimension’, ‘Contemporary West Asia: The Emerging Scenario’ etc. He has also supervised more than 30 research scholars (6 Ph. D, 25 M. Phil) on various aspects of Arab society and Culture. At present, several scholars are working under his supervision.

REFRESHER COURSE:
The Academic Staff College, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi organized a refresher Course on
“WEST ASIAN STUDIES” from March 2, 2006, to March 24, 2006. And I was attended and interacted with all the Indian expert on West Asia.

In March 2008, the Academic Staff College organized a three week refresher Course on “West Asian Studies”. I have been the Course Coordinator for the same.
