INTRODUCTION
RIPON BUILDING is the seat of the Chennai Corporation. Ripon, the heritage building is a fine structure in the INDO SARCENIC AND NEOCLASSICAL STYLE. The building was commissioned in 1913 and derived its name from the father of the local self government and governor general of India during British times, Lord Ripon. The building is rectangular and is 279 ft long and 105 ft wide. The total floor area is approximately 90,000 sq ft.

RIPON BUILDING IS A FINE STRUCTURE IN THE INDO SARACENIC AND NEO CLASSICAL STYLED ARCHITECTURE IS A SMOOTH BLEND OF IONIC, GOTHIC AND CORINTHIAN.
FEATURES OF THE BUILDING THAT IDENTIFY ITS ARCHITECTURAL STYLE AS NEO-CLASSICAL:
• SYMMETRY , BALANCED
• USE OF COLUMNS ON THE FAÇADE PEDIMENT
• SEMI-CIRCULAR ARCHES
• EMPHASIS ON PLANAR QUALITY

ENTRY/EXIT: ENTRIES STRATEGICALLY LOCATED CONSIDERING THE METRO/
BUS TERMINAL. SEPARATE ENTRY FOR VIP’S, STAFF’S AND VISITORS FOR SECURITY REASONS AND TO PROVIDE VARIOUS DEGREE OF VEHICULAR ACCESS WITHIN THE SITE.
ROAD NETWORK AND PARKING: INTERNAL ROAD OF 7.2M WIDE ALONG THE LANDSCAPE AREA. PARKING LOCATED NEAR THE RESPECTIVE ENTRIES.
MULTILEVEL CARPARKING LOCATED NEXT TO THE STAFF’S ENTRY/EXIT.
FIRE TENDER: 7.2 M WIDE ROAD CONSIDERING FIRE TENDER MOVEMENT AND FIRE HOSE REEL LOCATED AT REGULAR INTERVALS AS PER STANDARDS.
PATHWAY: COVERED WALKWAY CONNECTING THE RIPON AND THE ANNEX BUILDING ACTS AS BUFFER BETWEEN THE ROAD AND THE LANDSCAPE AREA.
MATERIAL PALETTE: USE OF GRANITE STONE.
COLOUR THEME: SHADES OF GREY TO COMPLEMENT THE HERITAGE BUILDING.
RAINWATER HARVESTING:
RAIN WATER HARVESTING PITS AND POND PROPOSED TO HARVEST ALL THE RAIN WATER GENERATED WITHIN THE SITE.
